The concept is simple as a family meal: cook a combo starter-dish-dessert for four people for a maximum budget of 30 euros . The principle of the show «Quatre à table», broadcast every Saturday on TF1 at the end of the 1 pm newspaper, Jérôme Berthelot and his daughter Justine discovered it by participating in it: on weekends, at noon, the father-daughter duo is at work in the kitchen of the hotel-restaurant La Brèche, in Amboise. "The person who makes this show came to eat with us, she fell in love with us, and she offered to participate... We watched the show in Replay to see what it was," says Jérôme Berthelot. He described himself as a man of the shadows, more at ease behind his stoves than under the light, and accepted "on one condition: that my local producers be highlighted."
Local produce and wild herbs
The filming took place on May 2 and 3, between room and garden, fields and kitchen. " The journalist gave me 30 euros, and we went to see my producers," says Berthelot. Before filling his basket under the eye of the cameras, the chef has imagined a menu on the theme of herbs. A culinary "curiosity" that he shares with his daughter, regularly decorating dishes and desserts with herbs from the garden, or wild plants picked in the early morning.
"I did what I did for the restaurant, starting from the seasonal products offered to me by my producers," says Bertholot. I prepared myself, but not too much to stay spontaneous: the idea is not to cook big, but to prepare food and to sit down to the table!" On the menu this Saturday, May 14, the broadcast day of the show: asparagus and garden livèche, poultry and seasonal vegetables with bear garlic pesto, strawberries with berce and earth ivy.
